What the halving does
The halving permanently reduces how many new bitcoin enter circulation with each block. It's written into Bitcoin's code and needs no vote or announcement. Past halvings occurred in 2012, 2016, 2020, and 2024. This is a supply mechanic, not a price prediction — how markets react is uncertain and not something this page forecasts.
